How it works
Tax is computed progressively. Each taxpayer type has a tax-free threshold; income above it is taxed in brackets at increasing rates. A simplified 10% investment rebate (capped at ৳100,000) can reduce the computed tax, and a minimum tax applies once income exceeds the threshold.
Example calculation
For ৳800,000 taxable income, general taxpayer, assessment year 2025-26:
- Computed tax ≈ ৳42,500
- Tax payable ≈ ৳42,500
Important notes
- This is an estimation tool, not an official NBR return calculator.
- Rules are stored per assessment year in the site data and labelled verified or provisional.
- The example below uses the ৳800,000 general taxpayer case for the 2025-26 assessment year.

Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator uses slab-based rules stored in a data file by assessment year. Rules marked “verified” reflect widely published slabs. Provisional years are clearly marked — always confirm the current rates with NBR before filing.
The assessment year is the year in which you file and pay tax on income earned during the previous fiscal year. For example, income earned in FY 2024-25 is assessed in the 2025-26 assessment year.
Yes. When income exceeds the tax-free threshold, a minimum tax floor (৳5,000 general, ৳3,000 for female, senior and disabled taxpayers) applies even if the computed tax is lower.
No. It is an estimate that follows the general slab structure. Your actual tax can differ because of exemptions, withholding, advance tax and specific provisions — always verify with official NBR documents or a tax professional.
The tax-free threshold depends on taxpayer type. The general threshold is the lowest, with higher thresholds for female taxpayers, senior citizens, persons with disability and gazetted war-wounded freedom fighters. The calculator applies the threshold for the taxpayer type you select.
